What is upholstery vinyl?

The Upholstery vinyl fabric (also known as Vegan Leather), we supply is manufactured from PVC and then backed with an woven or non-woven polyester. Some of the vinyls and vegan leathers have coatings that are applied during the manufacturing process to greatly increase there durability.

Vinyl that is made with a non-woven backing on the vinyl allows the vinyl to stretch around tighter corners and is also ideal when there are internal corners in the furniture as it reduces creasing on the finished article.

Vinyl & Vegan Leather made from PVC is better suited to the New Zealand climate. In New Zealand PU based vinyls often delaminate from there backing and bubble off, this is seen so often in dining chairs. The cause of this is due to a process called Hydrolysis, as New Zealand has a humid climate. The moisture in the air reacts with the PU surface, the PU vinyl surface delaminates from the backing is attached to resulting the failure of the product.
